Creatures, Allergies & 1-Ply Toilet Paper

Jun 21, 2026

February 2020

Greetings from the desert!

Life here is full of learning, dust, and new opportunities!

One of my peers recently transferred from the Army so he is loving the Air Force version of a deployed location. I have to agree with him, I am so very grateful for bathrooms in walking distance, air conditioning, and hot food in the DFAC.

I will say though, there are some interesting challenges. The first week has been full of adjusting to a new sleep schedule, figuring out what my job roles and responsibilities are, locating different offices and learning a ton of new names! On top of that, we daily have to battle creatures, allergies (holy mildew and dust) and toilet paper and paper towels that are translucent.

I am very grateful for the people, both here and back home, who are so kind, gracious and helpful. Our commander reminds us that each day we have the power to make someone's day, so I am looking for opportunities to do so and pray I will fill the needs of our team.

Fun fact, one of the sections I am over is postal operations so I am learning more about the USPS than I ever hoped to know!
